FYE: Earn $50 and Make a difference in Public schools!

Good afternoon, Res Life Leadership team!

As you may have seen in this morning’s OSU Today, FYE will be hosting its annual Distinguished Speaker next Tuesday, March 26th in the Ohio Union. There are still plenty of good seats available. While the program targets first year students, all students are welcome!

This year’s Distinguished Speaker is Charles Best, Founder and CEO of DonorsChoose.org. Mr. Best started DonorsChoose.org as an online charity to address the growing needs of public school students and teachers. DonorsChoose.org makes it easy for anyone to assist public school students in need.

Here’s how it works: Public school teachers post classroom project requests at DonorsChoose.org and you can give any amount to the project that most inspires you (even as little as $1). When a project reaches its funding goal, DonorsChoose.org ships the materials to the school. You'll get photos of the project taking place, a letter from the teacher, and insight into how every dollar was spent. Give $50 or more and you'll also receive hand-written thank-yous from the students.

Now, an exciting feature of next week’s program is that the first 500 audience members will receive a $50 DonorsChoose.org Gift Card so OSU students can start making a difference at the public school of their choice that very evening.

How to attend: Students/Staff can get an e-ticket at scarletandgray.osu.edu using event code BEST13. Or, you/they can request group tickets by contacting Julie Richardson from the FYE team at Richardson.640@osu.edu.

Job opportunity for you residents!

*** Fall 2013 Job Opportunities Making Social Change ***

We’re looking for smart, hard-working students who work well in a team and are eager to work for change after graduation.

The Fund for the Public Interest helps some of the top progressive organizations in the country work on issues such as green energy, equal rights for GLBT Americans, and stopping big corporate money in our elections.  And we're hiring!

Specifically, we're hiring Citizen Outreach Directors to run our grassroots campaign offices across the country next fall -- working on behalf of groups like the Environment America, the Human Rights Campaign and US PIRG. It's a lot of responsibility, mainly focused on hiring, training and managing a staff that goes out into communities to build grassroots support for these organizations’ campaigns. We’re looking for students who might be up for this challenge and would be passionate about working on environmental and social justice campaigns.

We are looking for smart, motivated students who want to get their hands dirty and make a real impact on some of the most critical issues facing our society.
